housewrap and flashing services

WeatherBarriers performs installation services for companies that build tract homes, custom design home builders, townhouse contractors, and condominium construction companies.

We work at construction sites throughout Northeast Florida, primarily in Duval County, St. Johns County, Nassau County, and Clay County.

HOUSEWRAP SERVICES

Building codes require the use of a water resistive barrier (WRB) in the construction of exterior walls, typically to cover structural wood surfaces underneath an exterior cladding. This helps to prevent the intrusion of bulk water from the outside, while allowing water vapor to escape from the inside.

Many different types of housewrap are available, each with specific properties of water resistance, vapor permeability, abrasion resistance, and durability. Choice of housewrap can depend on prevailing regional weather, price point of building, and type of exterior cladding.

WeatherBarriers specializes in DuPont Tyvek; however, we work with many different brands of housewrap as specified by our customers.

FLASHING SERVICES

WRB systems include materials that prevent water from penetrating joints, seams, and penetrations. These “flashing” materials are often made from a flexible material with an adhesive backing, allowing it to be fastened to irregular surfaces during installation.

Openings for doors, windows, pipes, and wires must be flashed in particular ways to prevent leaks. Different types of flashing materials exist for these different applications.

WE WORK IN TWO PHASES

Phase 1

WeatherBarriers will come out and fasten housewrap to all exposed vertical wood (OSB) surfaces on walls, gables, dormers, columns, and headers. All door and window rough openings will be wrapped, with flashing used to create a protective pan at window sills.

Phase 2

We will make a second trip to install flashing around all window and door jambs.

Throughout the entire project, we communicate regularly with building superintendents to remain responsive and flexible, ensuring that work happens when scheduled to keep project timelines on track.
